I recently read that in this age of digital design the artform of hand lettering is coming back in a big way in advertising, children’s books, magazines, packaging design, etc.
Hand lettering is liberating and offers a more human dimension.
I can appreciate them both.
Doodling is the expression of a wandering mind and new research is suggesting that a wandering mind may be a good thing for humanity. A wandering mind appears to be a time when our brains are not ‘doing’ but rather ‘being’ and in that state (called a default brain state) we seem to increase in self-awareness.

I took closeup photos, about 6″ away, from a painting I’m working on. My painting isn’t a landscape, however I like this small section of color that looks like one. I added another portion of the painting on top of that image which leads me to an idea for a future painting. I like it when that happens unexpectedly.
It seems I have so many photos that are appropriate for this trick, I can’t stop myself.
I’m diggin’ the new LOVE stamp from the US Postal Service, available May 8 nationwide. The King and Queen each get their own stamp. Designed by artist Jeanne Greco of NY.
